In Stereo

A comprehensive collectors’ 4CD, 90-track compilation that explores the band’s stereo recordings history of the 1964-66 Decca era, with tracks that were subsequently mixed into stereo from original mono tapes – at first in ‘fake stereo’ for an American version of the 1965 debut album, then in ‘true stereo’ in the late 60s for a further US release, followed by European compilations from the 1970s onwards - all issued to meet popular demand for stereo versions. This collection features original 1960s ‘True’ and ‘Fake’ stereo tracks. It then progresses in the second half to the more recent 2002 stereo versions that were remixed from the master tapes of the Decca era.

CD1: 1960s ‘True Stereo’ recordings (1960s remixes of tracks from the 1964-1966 Decca period)
32 tracks: A selection that includes key tracks ‘She’s Not There’ & ‘Tell Her No’, plus many others.
The tracks – all from the Decca era – are original 1960s ‘true stereo’ mixes, some of which were first issued on the 1969 USA release ‘Early Days’, followed by Decca compilations in the 1970s, such as ‘World Of The Zombies’ and ‘Rock Roots’, on Epic’s ‘Time Of The Zombies’ and on other subsequent LP and CD collections into the 1980s.

CD 2: 1960s ‘Fake Stereo’ recordings (1960s remixes of tracks from the 1964-1966 Decca period)
14 tracks: Original 1960s Decca reprocessed stereo mixes (‘fake stereo’) starting with the 12 tracks that first featured on the debut American album ‘The Zombies Featuring She’s Not There and Tell Her No’ (released in USA only on Parrot Records, PAS 71001 stereo version, p.1965), plus 2 other ‘fake stereo’ tracks that subsequently appeared on Decca’s 1970 ‘The World Of The Zombies’ compilation.

CD 3 + CD4: New Stereo Mixes from masters of the 1964-1966 Decca period (2002 Remixes , Remastered 2013) 44 tracks spread across 2 CDs are all sourced from the 2002 remixes. These revisited recordings first featured on the Big Beat release ‘The Decca Stereo Anthology’ (CDWIK2 225, p.2002). Our opening 14 tracks are specially selected to follow the exact running order of the Zombies’ debut 1965 Decca LP ‘Begin Here’ - here now presented for your listening pleasure in updated stereo version! – with a further 30 tracks also taken from the same batch of 2002 remixes.

All newly remastered by Jon Astley (who has worked on recordings by the Who, Led Zeppelin, George Harrison and many others). Superb sound – the best in the business!

Booklet with new, authoritative liner notes written by respected journalist and author Michael Heatley (‘Record Collector’/‘Guitar & Bass’). Includes insights on stereo aspects from Jon Astley.
