June 1983 in the remote mountain village of Hinamizawa: Keiichi Maebara has quickly made friends with Rena, Mion, Satoko and Rika, but behind the idyllic village life lurk old legends, mistrust and the curse of the god Oyashiro. Higurashi GOU picks up the well-known cult series and takes paths that will surprise even seasoned fans.
Volume 1 contains the Onidamashi chapter with episodes 1 to 4. What initially looks like a familiar fresh start quickly tips over after the village festival into an oppressive spiral of fear and paranoia in which Keiichi no longer knows who he can trust.
